This section details appropriate decontamination methods for each of the medical devices listed.
The list is only an example of devices currently in use, it is important that a risk assessment process is undertaken to identify whether an item is classified as being of high, medium or low risk, the method and level of decontamination required and whether it should be sterile at the point of use. You should always take care to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and adhere to local procedures and policies for the particular device used. Further advice should be obtained from your local Infection Control Team and Sterile Services Manager.
